How addiction affect you as a person

Addiction is a tool that it's major work is to create a colony that affects growth, development, and usability in many spheres of life.

Everything that happens in life grows to be a habit if care is not taken, and it becomes an addiction.

The report revealed that the number of drug abusers who are addicts goes thus: About 10,640,000 take cannabis, 4,610,000 are on opioids, 4,608,000 use pharmaceutical opioids like Codeine, Tramadol, and Morphine, 481,000 take cocaine, 2,360,000 use cough syrups, and 481,000 take tranquilizers and sedatives.

More disturbingly, the report establishes that nearly 1 in 8 persons in Nigeria has suffered at the hands of people who abuse drugs, ranging from threats and fear of physical harm. The most dreadful fact is that they are so much addicted to stop the act.

To think a chronic smoker became that in a day is a mistake cause everything in life is a ladder, it's a result of a process from one stage to another. Innocence to awareness to involvement, full participation, buyers' remorse, killing the guilt, on and on till it becomes a full-blown and uncontrollable addiction.

In the world today, It is easy to tell that when you see people, certain features and behavioral patterns are indications that they are going through one addiction or the other. Some characteristics of an addict are thus:

Cravings: A strong desire or urge to engage in the substance or behavior, often accompanied by physical or psychological symptoms. Once you become addicted, you will crave it. So, one of the ways by which you know an addict is desire and urge for that thing.

It's a sunny bright afternoon when Rhianna and James go to Joyce's place to pay a visit since it's a holiday period.

When they got to her door, it came as a surprise to see it open. They knocked severally on the door after closing it thinking she would come and give them the normal hug and welcome peck with the smile of a beautiful lady.

After several knocks with no response, they opened the door and left for her room. They were shocked as Rhianna almost fainted when she realized that Joyce was crazily consuming alcohol and still craving money to get cannabis.

Immediately she saw them, she couldn't say a word but a few minutes later, she said this" I always crave this cause it's a lifestyle to me. You can say it out there, but it doesn't stop me from taking it." she broke into tears after saying that.

The situation whereby a man is addicted implies that he is forever aligned with the process without thinking of the effect.

According to the WHO,  About 270 million people (or about 5.5% of the global population aged 15-64) had used psychoactive drugs in the previous year and about 35 million people are estimated to be affected by drug use disorders (harmful patterns of drug use or drug dependence).

Loss of control: Difficulty in regulating the substance or behavior use despite the negative consequences. They find it difficult to control and conform to their new state.

Reflecting on other activities: Ending more time on the substance or behavior, leads to decreased energy in other activities such as work, school, or social life, Despite the negative consequences, individuals continue to engage in the substance or behavior.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), in 2019, 19.7 million adults (age or older) had a substance use disorder (SUD) in the United States.

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) reported that in 2020, about 13.7% of people aged 12 or older had used illicit drugs in the past year.

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), in 2020, about 5.8% of adults aged 18 or older had an alcohol use disorder (AUD) in the past year.

Do you remember the story of Amy Winehouse an exceptionally talented British singer-songwriter, a celebrity, and a lot of awards and tracks to her name? She lived well in her career and pursued it with all genuine passion.

She was a member of the National Jazz Youth during her youth days and also released an album titled "Back to Black" which was the best-selling album in 2006.

As successful as she was, every other negative thing left her and her career grew except for Drug addiction which later led to her death.

She struggled with substance abuse, mental illness, and addiction and eventually died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27.

Addiction is a very harmful and dangerous device that ensures there is a retarded movement and is ready to kill everything you dreamt of and scatter all you have gathered. Refuse to be an addict today cause the goal of every addiction is to destroy you or empty you of every value and that itself is synonymous with death.

Addiction is a killer, do not fall victim.
